PageMapper
Have you ever read a news story and wondered “Where is that city?”
Ever glanced at a headline and realized you had no idea where in the world
the article was talking about?
Ever wanted a quick overview of where the news was taking place?
Now you can know with the press of a button.
The MetaCarta Labs PageMapper bookmarklet
answers these questions. The PageMapper is a bookmarklet, which you can
drag to your browser bookmarks bar. Once you do that, you can click it to
see a map of the locations mentioned in most pages you view!
To get PageMapper, visit the PageMapper homepage
and follow the instructions.
Under the hood, the PageMapper uses
href="http://openlayers.org/">OpenLayers to construct the map display,
and loads data from the MetaCarta
Labs GeoParser API. PageMapper passes your browser’s document.location in the url=
argument to the GeoParser. This means that it fails on secured sites
(that’s a good thing).
We’d love to hear what you think of PageMapper. Tell us what it does for
you and what you wish it did.
